Her favorite part of the day- we made stained glass cookies! Since part of the story, Clown of God, takes place in a church, and many churches have stained glass windows, we looked at pictures of some on the 'net (Isn't Google just grand?!), and then made the cookies. We did use store bought dough just to speed up the process. SweetPea had to sort Life Saver candies by color, open the wrappers, and put the candies in separate baggies. When she finished that, she had to crush the candies with the meat mallet. We put the broken candies in separate bowls. I rolled out the dough, and SweetPea used a round cookie cutter to cut the dough into shapes. Then we used a small bird cookie cutter to make our "window" in the center of the circle. The bird represented the dove from the story. Once all the windows had been cut out we put them on cookie sheets (lined with foil), and SweetPea spooned different colored candy pieces into each of the holes. We baked them and the candy melted, in some of the cookies it melted a bit too much, but some of them turned out just right. They were cute, and SweetPea enjoyed making them and eating them.

Thursday
Thursday went well, although we did not accomplish as much as I had wanted to. SweetPea went right to work on her handwriting practice, with no complaints. Yay! Of course, she was looking forward to what we were going to do later, so I wasn't really surprised. Very happy though! She did a math sheet that asker her to fill in the missing numbers, no problem there, except that instead of writing 12 she wrote 21. (11, _, 13) She realized her mistake and corrected it. She also did a sheet of unscrambling words (3-letter short vowel words). She did great! The words were simple, but she used to leave out the vowel when she'd spell words like car, because "r" says "ar" so she'd say "c" sound = "c", "ar" sound= "r", so she'd spell it "cr". She is understanding it a bit better now, at least on that sheet.
